  • Tenant insurance is a policy designed to protect renters from financial loss related to their belongings, living situation, and liability. Unlike your landlord’s insurance—which only covers the building structure and common areas—tenant insurance focuses on your personal property and potential liabilities.

    Key Features:

    • Protection for Personal Property: Covers everything you bring into the unit—furniture, electronics, clothing, and even items stored in on-site lockers. Most policies include replacement cost coverage, so items are replaced at today’s prices, not depreciated value. Coverage often extends to belongings temporarily off-premises (e.g., on vacation).

    • Coverage for Extra Living Expenses: If an insured event (like fire or water damage) makes your home unlivable, the policy can pay for temporary housing and related costs.

    • Liability Protection: Provides coverage if you accidentally cause damage to the landlord’s building or another person’s property (e.g., smoke damage from a kitchen fire).

    • Legal Liability for the Rental Unit: Helps cover repair costs if you accidentally damage your rental unit itself.

    • Your Landlord’s Insurance Doesn’t Cover You: It only protects the building, not your belongings.

    • Financial Protection for Unexpected Events: Without tenant insurance, replacing personal belongings or covering temporary housing costs after a disaster can be extremely expensive.

    • Affordable Peace of Mind: Policies are generally low-cost compared to the potential losses from property damage, liability claims, or displacement.

  • No, this policy was designed specifically for the landlord/leasing agency you have been renting from. If youneed coverage after you have moved out, you can see if your new landlord is on our program or if they offer asimilar program. If not, you can purchase a tenant insurance policy through your local broker.

  • No, roommates are not covered under one tenant policy. They need to obtain their own policy for their own property. However, family members; husband, wife, spouse(s), children and dependents are covered under one policy.

  • Your policy is part of a master program that renews annually, your actual certificate renews as long as your premiums are paid.

  • We have created an exclusive claims line that is available 24/7 for you to file a claim at any time at 1-877-807-5662. Alternatively you can email your claim information to: xnbfl@sedgwick.com

When reporting a claim, please have your policy number handy, the date and time the loss occurred, and what was the cause of the loss. If your claim involves theft or vandalism, a police report will be required to process your claim.
